Bhutan Textile Gho
hand-spun wild silk yarn
Most Bhutanese men tend to carry a knife.
Men of higher social rank may carry a sword,
conferred upon them by the king.
The man’s shoulder cloth, the kabne,
is similarly required for formal occasions,
like the women’s shoulder cloth.
The color of the man’s kabne shows his social rank,
with white being for commoners and yellow reserved
for the king and the Chief Abbott of Bhutan.
Government officials might have their shoulder cloths
embellished with extra patterns or colors, such
as red stripes.
